Latinas in STEM was founded by a few MIT graduates with careers in industry and a long track records of community service. As first generation American women who were the first in their families to attend college they knew first-hand that there were many barriers to entry for women in STEM fields. Those barriers are compounded for Latinas due to a lack of role models, lagging outreach and overall limited parental awareness. They organized to inspire and empower parents and K-12 students to pursue STEM fields, and to help college students and professionals thrive in their careers.

Your digital footprint is your online resume. If approached with intention young people can leverage their digital footprints to prepare them for future success. Without proper guidance a negative digital footprint can undo years of hard work and dedication. The goal of this presentation was to educate the parents and teachers of gifted students so that they help guide the young people in their lives to leverage social media in order to enhance their future prospects.

Public Relations Specialist at Passaic Public Schools

Communications with stakeholders is an important and vital part of any organization. It requires exceptional communication skills and the ability to approach topics creatively and strategically always being mindful of all stakeholders both internal and external.

Successfully defended my research which encompassed an exploratory study of the impact of school websites on the perception of public Schools which was published to Proquest. Graduated with an Ed.D in May of 2017 with family by my side.

An important part of doing research is sharing your research with stakeholders and people that can influence change. I was asked to present my doctoral research at New Jersey Educational Computing Cooperative at Montclair State College to an audience of Administrators, EdTech coaches and coordinators as well at State Educational Stakeholders. 

2016

Volunteering for the second year in a row for the Girls in Technology Symposium was not a difficult decision.  Women are under represented in technology related fields and as a woman in that field I feel I have a responsibility to serve as a role model to all of the young girls out there.  As a Girls in Technology Workshop Leader I can do that.  In conjunction with Debra Nagler, Antoinette Pindler-Darling and Martha Osei-Yaw, I was able to introduce middle school and high school girls to coding with Scratch as well as serve as a Latina Woman in Technolgy role model.

Project eNABALE is a global network of volunteers with 3D Printers that print and manufacture prosthetic hands for children with disabilities. Through a proposal to my school board I was able to secure permission to bring this worthy cause to my school in the form of a club and a committee dedicated to producing custom hands for kids and serve as another example as some of the great things happening in our urban public schools.

Co presented with Dr. Laura Zieger an hour and a half long session on digital footprint.  Creating a positive digital footprint was discussed as well as the negative aspects of digital presence, how to brand yourself and the do's and don't of digital sharing.

Ran a poster Session at the 2016 NJEdge Conference in Princeton, New Jersey on the importance of branding public schools.  I was he winner of the poster contest and get to run a break out session at next year's NJEDge conference.

2015

NJEDGE afforded me the opportunity to discuss communities of practice (COP)​ with the key note speaker, Etienne Wenger author of Situated Learning.

I conducted a poster session entitled: Using the Flipped Classroom Model to Support English Language Learners in the Math Classroom and got the opportunity to speak to others in the field and exchange ideas.

I served as a moderator for other presenters and was able to engage in professional conversations on topics of mutual interest.

Teachers can use the flipped classroom model to support English Language Learners in the math classroom content area.  Teachers of English Language Learners struggle to meet the demands of Language acquisition and content area development. Often students are not ready for math instruction in English in spite of the ELL level they’ve been placed in. The Flipped Classroom Model provides a way to meet the demands of language learners while providing teachers with a means of incorporating language into the content area curriculum without sacrificing classroom time that can be dedicated to content area development.  Click here for copy of poster

Volunteering at the NJCU Educational Technology Dept Information Booth at ISTE was a great way to give back and represent NJCU. I was able to provide guests with information on the Educational Technology Leadership Doctoral Program, highlight the benefits of the program and answer questions.  Promoting our department and our work in the field benefits the students collectively and individually as well as the department and school.  It is an excellent way to give back to the school community.

As a leader it is important to reach out to the youth and motivate them to succeed.  With this in mind I volunteered to lead a workshop for high school girls with a few collegues on using Makey Makey at Hudson Community College in Jersey City. Girls are under-represented in the field of technology and it is my hope that exposure will motivate girls to cultivate these opportunities that are available to them. Being a woman in the field of technology myself I have the opportunity to serve as a role modle to young girls.  

Volunteering to be the project manager for the India Curriculum Project, lead by Dr. Christopher Shamburg, afforded me the unique experience of working as a teacher on Canvas LMS.  Through this expereience I had the opportunity to  lead discussions with the goal of compiling a report with recommnedations for improvement of the curriculum of preservice teachers in India.  The report can be found by clicking on the link

In Jan of 2015 I began applying for positions in the field of Educational Technology in an effort to transition over to my field of study. In July of 2015 I secured a position as a Technology Teacher Coordinator in a brand new state of the art Gifted and Talented Academy located in Passaic New Jersey. Because the school was brand new I was afforded the opportunity to write my own curriculum and incorporate everything I've learned in my studies. Teaching technology through photography is a marriage of my two passions.  In addition I have been able to work with administration and teachers to provide technology initiatives for the upcoming school year including but not limited to Project e-NABLE.
2014

My Story

Being a judge for the SIIA CODiE Awards encompasses communicating with product developers in order to be able to judge their work on a rubric.  One of the most exciting things about being a CODiE Judge was being privy to emerging technologies before they go to market and seeing the direction the field is headed.  Speaking with developers and being able to ask questions provided me with a deep understanding of their framework and how the product would fit into the current framework of educational technology.
Educational and Technological Highlights of Latin America through the Prism of Economics (Abstract)

Economics, politics, and education are closely interwoven elements in any country, and Latin America is no different. Like many areas, Latin America has suffered since the economic crisis of 2008, yet external factors are all impacting the area. What at first may appear to be diverse elements such as eco-tourism, a new canal, legal changes in England, cheaper Internet costs, and the dropping of travel restrictions all will play key roles in the development of Latin American countries. This article presents economic snapshots of developments across Latin America and show how they are impacting the nature of K-12, college, and corporate environments
